How to Attach a Shirt Cuff with Pleats

Out of stock

Every sew who has sewn a classic men’s or women’s blouse has run into sewing a shirt cuff with pleats. It is a staple in classic shirt-wear, but it doesn’t have to be the most difficult thing to sew! Once your placket or bound slit is sewn in place the application of a cuff can still be tricky. You need to think about the pleats in the sleeve as well as making sure the cuff is sewn neatly sewn (because we all love to roll our cuffs up). In this video Meg will walk you through the technique of laying and basting pleats as well as sandwiching the sleeve edge in between the cuff edges so that you get a nice finished seam both on the right and wrong side of the garment.

You’ll love this video if:

  • You want to see how to correctly sandwich the sleeve hem inside the cuff
  • In the past you have had difficulty accurately sewing the cuff onto the sleeves and basting the pleats in place beforehand

You will learn:

  • Pinning and sewing the pleats into place
  • Sewing up the sleeve seam
  • Prepping and pressing the cuff piece
  • Sewing the cuff edges together
  • Attaching the one corresponding cuff side to the sleeve hem
